ABOUT EPISODE:

From Humble Beginnings to Heptathlon Stardom

Erin Marsh's journey in track and field began when she discovered her natural talent for running while struggling with softball. Her transition from softball to cross country in sixth grade quickly evolved as she found her true passion in hurdling and sprinting. Encouraged by her club coach, Erin eventually embraced the heptathlon, a decision that would shape her future in athletics.

Overcoming Challenges and Staying Motivated

One of the key lessons Erin has learned is the importance of hydration. She emphasizes the role of Eternal Water in her routine, highlighting its naturally alkaline properties that help her perform at her best. Erin's motivation comes from seeing her continuous improvement and the desire to leave no points on the table. Her love for the sport and the excitement of competition keep her driven every day.

Aiming for the Stars

Erin's short-term goal is to excel at the indoor USA Championships and secure a spot at the indoor world championships. Long-term, she has her sights set on the Olympic trials and ultimately, the Olympics. Her recent training block has focused on high jump improvements, heavy lifting, and refining her technique. Erin’s dedication is evident as she prepares to open her season with a pentathlon, a rare and challenging feat.

A Day in the Life: Training, Nutrition, and Mental Preparation

Erin’s training regimen includes a mix of speed endurance workouts and technical sessions for various heptathlon events. Her favorite lifts are deadlifts and snatches, which have significantly contributed to her strength and power. Post-workout, Erin refuels with protein-rich meals, often opting for steak and smoothies.

Her pre-race routine involves listening to motivational music, journaling her goals and reflections, and visualizing her performance. This meticulous planning helps her stay focused and track her progress over time.

Finding the Right Support

Erin’s journey wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of her coach at Duke University, who believed in her potential from the start. This trust and guidance have played a crucial role in her success. Now, as she navigates the challenging post-collegiate athletic landscape, Erin is grateful for the sponsorship from VS Athletics, which provides her with essential resources to continue her training and competition.

Reflecting on her experiences, Erin advises young athletes not to get discouraged by setbacks. She emphasizes the importance of looking at the bigger picture and enjoying the journey. "One bad race doesn't define you," she says, encouraging athletes to stay focused on their long-term goals and maintain a positive mindset.
